Faith and Love Advance as the Road to Mosaic Narrows

The Peculiar People Soccer League (PPSL) playoffs began Saturday, July 25th, with two questions hanging over Norseman Park: who will become this year’s King of Mosaic, and which teams will earn the privilege of playing at Mosaic Stadium?

The first answers have arrived.

League leaders Grace FC and second-placed Light FC had earned quarterfinal byes and watched from the sidelines as their semifinal opponents emerged. Rest is always useful, although it also gives a team more time to wonder whether the opposition is becoming dangerous.

Faith FC defeated Peace FC 2–1, while Love FC eliminated Joy FC with a 4–2 victory. Peace and Joy are out. Faith and Love remain on the road to Mosaic.

Faith opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Bim finished a move created by Moussa. Peace responded through Charbell Zudu in the 36th minute, but the match remained level for only four minutes. Patrick struck in the 40th minute, assisted by Kelechi, and Faith protected the lead through a tense finish that included 10 minutes of added time.

Ten additional minutes may have felt generous to Peace. Faith treated them as an unnecessary extension of the working day.

“We bend, but we do not break,” was the message from Faith’s disciplined performance.

The result continued Faith’s unbeaten run against Peace this season. Their first meeting on May 30 ended 0–0. Faith then won 1–0 on July 11 before completing the job with Saturday’s 2–1 playoff victory on July 25.

Peace finally scored against Faith, but unfortunately discovered that scoring once and winning are not always the same thing.

The second quarterfinal produced six goals, a red card and considerably more drama.

Tolu gave Love the lead in the 16th minute before Felix made it 2–0 nine minutes later. AY pulled one back for Joy in the 34th minute, but Mbappe restored Love’s two-goal advantage almost immediately. Victor added a fourth in the 53rd minute before Chike converted a penalty for Joy two minutes later.

Love finished with 10 players after Richard was sent off for a foul and swearing, but the damage had already been done. By then, Love had four goals and Joy had a serious mathematics problem.

“Forget the regular season. This is the playoffs,” Love’s performance seemed to declare.

That response was significant because Joy had dominated their earlier meetings. Joy defeated Love 4–1 on May 30, and the teams drew 0–0 on July 11. Love had not beaten Joy during the regular season, but produced four goals when elimination was on the line.

Joy won the regular-season argument. Love won the case that mattered.

Faith will now face Grace FC, who defeated them in both previous meetings. Grace won 2–1 on May 16 and 3–1 on June 20. Grace will be favoured, and rightly so, but playoff football has never been known for respecting paperwork, league tables or comfortable predictions.

Faith’s response will be simple: “You beat us twice. Now try it when everything is at stake.”

Love will meet Light FC with greater confidence. Love defeated Light 2–0 on May 16 and held them to a 1–1 draw on June 20. Light finished higher in the standings and enjoyed a quarterfinal bye, but they have not defeated Love this season.

That is either an encouraging statistic for Love or an inconvenient warning for Light.

Next weekend, Faith will face Grace and Light will meet Love at Norseman Park. The winners will advance as the action moves to Mosaic Stadium.

Two teams are gone. Four remain.

For Faith, Grace, Light and Love, the equation is simple: win one more match and the gates of Mosaic open.

After that, one team may finally claim the title everyone wants—the 2026 King of Mosaic.
