Congratulations to Light FC — Kings of Mosaic and champions of PPSL 2026

After a long season of goals, setbacks, rivalries and plenty of talking points, the Peculiar People Soccer League finally has its 2026 champion.

Light FC defeated Faith FC 1–0 on Saturday, August 15, to lift the PPSL championship and earn the bragging rights that come with being crowned the King of Mosaic.

It was a close final, and for long stretches it looked like the kind of game that could be decided by one mistake or one moment of quality. That moment came from Femi, who scored the only goal of the match after being set up by John.

From there, Light had to work for everything.

Faith did not make the evening easy for the eventual champions. They pressed for an equalizer and kept the game competitive until the end, while Light were forced to defend their narrow lead under growing pressure.

“It was a very tough game, which is exactly what you expect in a final,” a PPSL representative said. “Faith came to compete and they stayed in the game. Light got their goal and then had to show that they could defend it.”

The match also had its share of drama.

Light captain Henry and Mayowa were both shown yellow cards for reckless play. A few minutes after the opening whistle, Faith were reduced to 10 men when Tobi was sent off for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, or DOGSO, in an incident outside the penalty area.

Faith goalkeeper Babatunde Benjamin later received a yellow card for handling the ball outside the box.

Even after the red card, Faith continued to push forward. There was still only one goal between the teams, and Light could not afford to switch off.

They didn't.

The final result was especially fitting considering how closely matched the two sides had been throughout the season. Their first meeting on May 9 ended 2–2, and their second encounter on June 13 finished goalless.

So when Light and Faith met for a third time, this time with the championship at stake, there was already a sense that very little would separate them.

That proved to be the case.

“They had played twice before and nobody had been able to beat the other,” the PPSL representative said. “This was the match that finally settled it. One goal made the difference.”

For Light, the championship also tells the story of a team that did not have a perfect season but found its best football when it mattered.

There were difficult days along the way. Light lost 2–0 to Love FC in May and were beaten 4–1 by Joy FC in June. They also dropped points in several draws.

But the team recovered.

A 2–0 win over Grace FC on July 11 was followed by another 2–0 victory over Joy FC on July 18, a significant turnaround from the heavy defeat they had suffered against the same opponent weeks earlier.

By the time the final arrived, Light had found their rhythm.

And when their opportunity came on Saturday, Femi took it.

Faith, meanwhile, can look back on a strong season of their own. Reaching the final was no small achievement, and even after going down to 10 men, they remained in the contest and made Light fight all the way to the finish.

The championship brings together the major honours from another competitive PPSL season. All Stars FC won the Community Shield, Grace FC finished as league leaders and took third place, Faith FC finished second, while Light FC claimed the championship.

Danniel Don Simeon and Funsho served as linesmen for the final, with Sola also receiving thanks for his work in helping the match run successfully.

“The trophy goes to Light, but a season like this takes a lot of people,” the PPSL representative said. “Players, captains, officials, volunteers, supporters and everyone behind the scenes all played a part.”

The celebration now moves off the pitch.

PPSL will hold its 2026 Award Night on Sunday, August 16, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 1771 Bond Street in Regina.

The evening will recognize some of the standout performances of the season, with awards including the Golden Boot, Golden Gloves, Golden Ball and MVP, among others. Free food and drinks will also be available.

It will be a chance for players to put the competition aside for an evening, look back on the season and celebrate the people who made it memorable.

For Light FC, however, there will be a little more to celebrate.

They came into the final knowing Faith would be difficult to beat. They scored once, survived everything that followed and walked away with the title.

Sometimes that is all a final requires.
