Faith and Light Reach Mosaic Final as Love Suffer Painful Exit

Faith FC and Light FC will contest the 2026 Peculiar People’s Soccer League final after two contrasting semifinals at Norseman Park on Saturday, August 1.

Faith defeated regular-season leaders Grace FC 2–0, while Light survived a late scare and penalty shootout to eliminate Love FC after a 1–1 draw.

Faith and Light will meet at 10:30 a.m. on August 15 at Mosaic Stadium, where the 2026 King of Mosaic will be crowned. Grace and Love will play for third place at 9 a.m.

Faith entered the first semifinal as the lower-ranked side but controlled the match from start to finish. Kelechi opened the scoring in the 26th minute from a Bim assist, and Moussa doubled the lead in the 51st minute, again created by Bim.

Bim may not have scored, but two assists made him the match’s quiet architect.

Daniel Azijekwe, popularly known as Biggie, filled in as Faith’s goalkeeper and completed the clean sheet. Sam Oyebamiji was in goal for Grace.

The result was also a major reversal of the regular-season meetings between the teams. Grace had defeated Faith 2–1 on May 16 and 3–1 on June 20.

Those earlier results suggested Grace had Faith’s number. On Saturday, Faith changed the number.

Faith have now won consecutive playoff matches 2–0, first eliminating Love and then Grace. Their playoff record stands at four goals scored and none conceded.

The second semifinal was far more painful.

Love took the lead when Kariboye converted a penalty awarded after a foul on Mbappe. With Ezekiel Olumide, also known as Biggie, in goal, Love defended bravely and appeared headed for the final.

Then, almost at the last moment, Wonder equalized for Light from a Femi assist.

The goal forced a penalty shootout, where Light goalkeeper Bolaji Ola became the hero. Bolaji saved two penalties as Light won 3–1.

Love did not merely lose. They watched a place in the final disappear in the closing moments and then vanish from the penalty spot.

Football has many ways to break a team’s heart. This was the deluxe package.

The result continued the close rivalry between the teams. Love won their first league meeting 2–0 on May 16, while the June 20 return match ended 1–1. Saturday’s semifinal also finished 1–1 before Light advanced on penalties.

Across three meetings, Love scored more regulation-time goals, but Light earned the result that mattered most.

Love played without Richard Boahem, who served a one-match suspension following his red card in the previous playoff round.

The PPSL Disciplinary Panel upheld the dismissal, finding that Richard used a restricted sliding tackle to deny a goalscoring opportunity and also showed dissent and used offensive language. The panel described the referee’s decision as “an accurate decision.”

However, the suspension was reduced because Richard had not been given the league’s Code of Conduct or properly briefed when he joined the team. He was required to attend the semifinal for a formal briefing.

Whether his presence would have helped Love protect the lead or convert a penalty cannot be known. What is certain is that Love came within minutes of reaching Mosaic without him.

The third-place match between Grace and Love should be competitive. The teams drew 2–2 on May 23 before Grace won the return fixture 2–0 on July 4.

Grace may be slight favourites based on that recent victory, but both teams must recover emotionally. Grace were comprehensively beaten by Faith, while Love must overcome the deeper disappointment of surrendering a late lead and losing on penalties.

The final is even harder to predict.

Faith and Light drew both regular-season meetings, 2–2 on May 9 and 0–0 on June 13. Neither side holds a clear advantage.

Light bring resilience, a strong goalkeeper and the confidence of surviving a shootout. Faith arrive with momentum, two playoff clean sheets and an attack led by Kelechi, Moussa and creator Bim.

Another close, low-scoring contest appears likely. Another draw would surprise nobody.

But on August 15, there can be no shared points.

Faith have conquered Grace. Light have broken Love’s heart.

Now one of them will be crowned King of Mosaic.
