Grace FC Tighten Their Grip as Matchday 7 Delivers Drama, Grit and Late Heroics
The Peculiar People Soccer League returned to Norseman Park on Saturday, June 20, and Matchday 7 delivered exactly what the league has come to expect from its growing Regina community: goals, laughter, tackles, late drama, personality, and a league table that is beginning to speak with a louder voice.
By the end of the morning, Grace FC had strengthened their hold at the top, Love FC had survived with a late equalizer, Joy FC and Peace FC had shared the points in a lively contest, and the chase pack had become even tighter. After seven matches played, Grace FC now sit first with 17 points, still unbeaten with five wins, two draws and a goal difference of +7. Behind them, Love FC remain second on 10 points, while Joy FC, Faith FC and Light FC are all locked on seven points. Peace FC, still fighting, sit sixth with six points, but as Saturday showed, no team in this league is ever too far from changing the story.
Grace FC made the clearest statement of the day in Game 3, defeating Faith FC 3-1 in a match that had energy, physicality and some excellent attacking combinations. Faith found their moment through Darasimi Eseyin, who reacted sharply to a rebound and finished to keep his side in the fight. But Grace responded like league leaders.
Charles Omonkegbe opened the scoring for Grace after good work from Bolaji Ola, then turned provider for Bode Yebisi, who finished confidently to put Grace in control. The partnership clicked again when Bode returned the favour, setting up Charles for his second goal of the match. Charles finished the day with two goals, Bode added a goal and an assist, and Bolaji Ola continued to underline his importance with another assist.
“It was not just a win; it was a message,” one Grace supporter said after the match. “They are playing like a team that knows where it wants to finish.”
Faith battled hard, perhaps too hard at times, with Solomon Adeboyeku, Abiodun Adejonwo and Godes all receiving yellow cards for hard tackles. The result leaves Faith on seven points, level with Joy and Light, but Grace’s unbeaten run is now becoming one of the major stories of the 2026 season.
Earlier in Game 2, Joy FC and Peace FC produced a 1-1 draw full of character. The match kicked off at 9:25 a.m., with dry field conditions and the kind of pleasant 19-degree weather that inspired one reporter to describe the pitch as “dry and sweet.” Joy struck first in the 34th minute through Adefemi Adegeye, who made a determined run from right back, latched onto a rebound and powered the ball past the Peace goalkeeper. It was a goal built on grit, timing and pure will.

Peace, however, had no plans to leave Norseman Park empty-handed. In the 49th minute, Success Ademoye intercepted a poor pass, drove forward and fired a quick strike past Joy’s fill-in goalkeeper. There was little the keeper could do. Success, never far from the centre of events, had already picked up a yellow card in the 39th minute for constant complaining and aggravating dissent, but his equalizer ensured Peace left with a valuable point.
“He talks, he complains, he runs, he scores,” one Peace teammate joked. “That is Success for you. Sometimes you want him quiet, but today we needed that noise.”
Joy’s Fife Ogunde was also shown a yellow card for a bad tackle in the 41st minute. With that caution, Fife joins the discipline list, while Success now sits among the league’s most-carded players with two yellow cards, level with Sesan Sopitan. Discipline may yet become a factor as the season moves into its decisive stretch.
Game 1 opened the day with Light FC and Love FC sharing the points in a 1-1 draw. Because of time lost during pitch setup, each half was reduced to 20 minutes, but the shortened match still produced a strong contest. Light took the lead in the 28th minute through Femi Emmanuel, assisted by Raeez Hossain. The goal moved Femi to four goals for the season, placing him among the league’s top scorers alongside Bolaji Ola and Daniel Emakpose.
Love FC had to wait until stoppage time for their answer, and it arrived in the 40+2 minute through Tolu Johnson. The moment, however, belonged as much to Derek Kariboye as it did to the scorer. Kariboye, already one of the league’s leading attackers with six goals this season, could have gone for goal himself. Instead, he chose the team option, laying the ball to Tolu, who finished the chance calmly.
“That was the kind of assist coaches love,” a Love FC observer said. “Kariboye had every reason to shoot, but he saw a teammate in a better position. That is leadership. That is teamwork.”
Kariboye remains second in the top scorers’ race with six goals, just behind Daniel O. Chike, who leads the league with seven. The chasing group is close, with Femi Emmanuel, Bolaji Ola and Daniel Emakpose all on four goals. In the assists column, Preston Omoruwa, JohnPaul Ortserga, Darasimi Eseyin, Osas Agho and Daniel Emakpose remain among the leaders with two assists each, while Saturday’s matches added more names to the creative conversation.
The table now gives the league a clear shape. Grace FC are in front and still unbeaten. Love FC are second, but their four draws show both resilience and missed opportunities. Joy FC, Faith FC and Light FC are separated by goal difference only, each sitting on seven points. Peace FC remain bottom, but with only one point separating them from that three-team pack, their season is still very much alive.
The next round may be one of the most important yet. On Saturday, July 4, Grace FC meet Love FC at 8:00 a.m. at Norseman Park in a top-of-the-table clash that could either tighten the race or give Grace even more breathing room. Joy FC then face Faith FC at 9:15 a.m., with both teams entering the match level on points and desperate to separate themselves from the crowded middle. At 10:30 a.m., Peace FC take on Light FC in a fixture that carries major implications for the lower half of the table. A week later, on Saturday, July 11, Faith FC will face Peace FC at 8:00 a.m., another match that could prove crucial in the battle to climb.
For now, Matchday 7 belongs to Grace FC, whose 3-1 win over Faith confirmed their status as the team to beat. But the story of the day was bigger than one result. It was Kariboye choosing the pass over personal glory. It was Success Ademoye turning noise into a goal. It was Femi Adegeye running from deep to score for Joy. It was Light refusing to fade, Love refusing to lose, and Peace refusing to stay quiet.
In a league built from community, structure and the shared love of the beautiful game, the 2026 PPSL season is beginning to find its rhythm. And with Grace versus Love coming next, the table may be speaking now — but it is far from finished.
