Faith, Light and Grace Steal the Headlines on a Lively Matchday 3

Matchday 3 of the PP Soccer League had a little bit of everything: early goals, late drama, a clean and fair game, yellow cards, comebacks, and enough talking points to keep the boys busy long after the final whistle.

The action on May 23, 2026, produced three entertaining fixtures, with Team Faith beating Team Joy 2-0, Light edging Peace 3-2, and Love and Grace sharing the points in a 2-2 draw.

In one of the day’s most disciplined performances, Team Faith got the job done against Team Joy, winning 2-0 in a match that was competitive but fair from start to finish. There were no yellow cards, no red cards, and no major controversy. There was just football.

After a tight opening period, Emmanuel Patrick broke the deadlock in the 37th minute, finishing off a good move created by Leyii. Faith then sealed the win late in the game when Musa scored in the 49th minute, with Dara providing the assist.

For Faith, it was the kind of result every team wants: clean sheet, two goals, no cards, and no unnecessary drama.

As one excited Faith supporter could have put it after the game: “That is how you respond, calm, organized, and clinical. No noise, just football.”

The most dramatic scoreline of the day came in the match between Light and Peace, where Light survived a late fightback to win 3-2.

Light started like a team in a hurry. Femi opened the scoring in the 9th minute, assisted by Afeez, before Osas added another in the 14th minute from an Abbey assist. By the 22nd minute, Femi had scored again, this time assisted by Osas, and Light looked fully in control at 3-0.

But football does not always follow the script.

Peace refused to lie down. Yinka pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 35th minute, with James involved in the buildup. Then, in the 49th minute, Sope scored again for Peace, also assisted by James, turning what looked like a comfortable Light victory into a tense finish.

At that point, the mood on the sideline probably changed quickly from “we have won this” to “boys, please manage this game.”

Light eventually held on, but Peace will take encouragement from the way they fought back. A comeback did not fully happen, but the warning was clear: Peace will keep coming until the final whistle.

The game also had its physical moments. CJ/Kingsley was booked for a foul, while Ifeanyi and Osas both received yellow cards for dangerous slides. All three cautions went to Light, which may be something the team will want to clean up going forward.

The final game of the day between Team Love and Team Grace ended in a lively 2-2 draw, and this one wasted no time getting started.

Praise gave Love a dream opening with a goal in just the 2nd minute, putting Grace under pressure almost immediately. But Grace responded well, and Bolaji brought them level in the 17th minute, assisted by Michael.

Love went back in front in the 33rd minute through Kariboye, who continues to show his quality in front of goal. Daniel provided the assist for the goal. But Grace once again refused to go away, and Charles equalized in the 39th minute to make it 2-2.

It was the kind of match where neither side looked ready to accept defeat. Love struck first, Grace answered. Love struck again, Grace answered again.

A neutral fan watching from the side might have summed it up best: “This one was not about who wanted it more. Both teams wanted it. They just cancelled each other out.”

The match also came with a few cautions. Daniel of Love was booked for unsporting conduct, while Kanmi of Grace and Ibrahim of Love were shown yellow cards for fouls.

By the end of the day, Matchday 3 had given the league plenty to talk about. Faith showed discipline and efficiency. Light showed attacking firepower but also gave themselves a late scare. Peace showed fighting spirit. Love and Grace showed balance, resilience, and plenty of competitive energy.

The season is still young, but one thing is already clear: no team can be taken lightly. Every game has its own story, and every matchday is beginning to feel like must-watch football.

Excellent summary.
A special mention of Charles wonderful free kick equaliser, what a beauty to behold. Precision, power, speed and skill from 25 yards out.
