Who Will Be the PPSL King of Mosaic Stadium?
The Peculiar People’s Soccer League (PPSL) semifinals lit up Norseman Park on Saturday, August 16. Fans were treated to drama, goals, and high tension as the battle for Mosaic Stadium reached its climax.
Joy FC and Grace FC met in the early kickoff. Joy’s talisman, Daniel Onyeakazi, stole the show with two goals. One was a wicked freekick that bent past a rooted wall to seal a 2–1 win. Daniel Ola teed up Onyeakazi’s opener. James pulled one back for Grace after an assist from Fife. The referee booked Tobi and Segun for heavy fouls as emotions ran high.
Later in the day, Light FC defeated Love FC 2–1 in a fiery semifinal. Praise Ereku scored twice in the 26th and 33rd minutes to give Light control. Love FC hit back after the break when Osas finished off a move started by Ayo at the 48th minute. Light’s defense held firm. Manny was booked in the 16th minute for a sliding tackle from behind. Sesan was booked in the 60th minute for a rough challenge.
By the end of the day, two names stood above the rest. Daniel Onyeakazi and Praise Ereku each scored a brace. Both now move on to the final for a date with destiny.
The excitement of the semifinals rolled into Sunday with the long-awaited ball juggling contest, and it did not disappoint. Fans gathered as players tested their skill and stamina with the ball. Sola dazzled the crowd with an astonishing 253 juggles to claim first place. Marvin came second with 100. Daniel finished third with 90. Others who put on a brave show included Musa with 56, Wonder with 41, Ethan with 29, Elliot with 23, Henry with 21, and Izzy with 20. The contest added flair and fun to an already unforgettable weekend of PPSL action.
All roads now lead to Mosaic Stadium on Saturday, August 23. The third-place match between Grace FC and Love FC kicks off at 8:30 a.m.
At 10:00 a.m., the grand final begins. It will be Joy FC against Light FC for the crown. After the last whistle, the league will present trophies and medals on the field. Players are calling on fans, friends, and families to come out and fill the stands. The stadium atmosphere will be electric for what promises to be an unforgettable morning of soccer and celebration.
The season will close with the first-ever PPSL Award Night on Thursday, August 28, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at 1771 Bond Street, Regina. The evening will be invite-only. It will honor excellence, teamwork, and the volunteers who made the league a success.
The Golden Boot, Golden Glove, Golden Ball, and MVP awards will all find new homes. Three winners will emerge at Mosaic Stadium. One of the teams in the third-place match will be edged out from touching the trophy. Until then, circle the date: Joy FC versus Light FC for the crown. A stage big enough for heroes and ready-made for new ones.
