Light, Grace and Love Shine in Convincing Victories as League Resumes
Last Saturday the league paused for a well-earned rest, but when play resumed today the fireworks returned in full force. In the opener, Light FC asserted their dominance against Joy FC with clinical precision. Delight Baadi converted a penalty in the 19th minute after Praise Ereku, also called Mbappe, was upended in the box, drawing cheers from the home faithful.
Thirteen minutes later, Mbappe seized on a loose ball and rifled it home unassisted, doubling Light’s advantage. The decisive blow came just after halftime, when Musa Idrissu danced past two defenders and slotted the ball past the stranded goalkeeper, thanks to a perfectly timed through-ball from Olaide.
Despite their relentless pressure, Joy FC could not break through, and Light emerged with a 3–0 victory.
The match was not without its fiery moments. Delight and Sesan both picked up yellow cards for violent fouls, reminders that passion on the pitch can cut both ways.
The second game saw Grace FC continue their impressive run with a 3–0 win over Peace FC. Femi Emmanuel opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a fine finish, then calmly dispatched a spot kick in the 19th minute after a handball in the box.
Peace FC’s hopes were finally dashed in the 46th minute when Elliot Samuels curled home a sensational direct free kick, sparking jubilant celebrations. Idris Adewale capped off a memorable evening with an assist that cut through Peace’s defense like a knife through butter.
A solitary yellow card for Marvis O’s reckless handball was the only blemish on an otherwise dominant display by Grace FC.
In the third fixture, Love FC edged Faith FC 2–1 in a pulsating encounter. Taiye Abdulganiyu struck first for Love in the 15th minute, racing onto a long ball and clipping it past the goalkeeper. Six minutes later, Segun Hassan doubled Love’s lead. It was a beautiful free kick by a defender, scoring from the far left of the field with an in-swinger that hit the corner post and came back to hit the other post before going in.
Faith FC refused to lie down, and Kariboye Derek pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 38th minute, but Love’s defense held firm, even after Afeez Akinbola collected a yellow card for persistent fouling. The contest finished 2–1, leaving Faith FC rueing missed opportunities.
With today’s results, Love FC maintain their place at the summit, unbeaten in five games with eleven points. Grace FC lie just one point behind, while Light FC’s convincing win propelled them into third. Peace FC occupy fourth, Faith FC fifth, and Joy FC, despite spirited performances, remain sixth.
At the top of the scoring charts stands Kariboye Derek of Faith FC with five strikes, followed closely by Daniel Onyeakazi of Joy FC and Osas of Love FC on four goals each.
Musa Idrissu and Delight Baadi’s contributions have lifted them to three goals apiece for Light FC, while Femi Emmanuel’s goals kept Grace FC firmly in contention. As the season reaches its midway point, excitement and tensions continue to mount. Every point counts, and every goal can change the complexion of the title race.
