Joy Triumphs, Peace Rises, Light Shines
What a weekend it was in the league, at Norseman Park in Harbour Landing, with fireworks on and off the pitch as fans were treated to drama, brilliance, and controversy in equal measure. Three games, three distinct stories, and a major shake-up in the standings.
The action kicked off with a highly anticipated clash between Faith FC and Peace FC. Faith struck first blood in the 9th minute when JP Orterga calmly converted a penalty to give his side a glimmer of hope in a season that has seen more heartbreak than glory. But Peace responded with authority. Just three minutes later, Preston Omoruwa found the net to level the score, and by the 17th minute, he struck again, this time finishing beautifully from an Akin assist. The tide had turned, and Peace wasn’t done. In the 34th minute, Akin O. stepped up to the spot and drilled in a penalty, pushing Peace 3–1 ahead.
Despite a brilliant penalty save by goalkeeper Perfect Emefesi against Gomez that kept Faith from clawing back into the match, Peace’s victory was marred by a moment of madness. Star striker Preston Omoruwa, already on a brace, received a red card for unsportsmanlike conduct, a costly outburst that may impact Peace's upcoming matches. Still, the win catapulted them to 11 points and reignited hope for a stronger finish to the season.
In Game 2, Grace FC faced off against Light FC in a showdown that quickly turned into a showcase of speed, flair, and clinical finishing. Nicknamed "Mbappé" for his electric pace and calm composure, Praise Ereku opened the scoring for Light, converting a slick assist from Delight Baadi. Later in the game, Musa Idrisu added the second, latching onto a pinpoint pass from Ahmed Babalola. Grace FC struggled to respond, and their frustration boiled over with two yellow cards, one to Tobi for a rough foul, and another to Victor Ogunro for halting a promising counterattack.
The 2–0 win pushes Light FC closer to contention, now sitting on 12 points. Their balanced attack and improving discipline could be the key to climbing further. Praise Ereku’s fourth goal of the season adds his name to the top scorer conversation, while Delight Baadi’s third assist puts him among the league’s most creative players.

The third match was a clash of titans as Love FC, league leaders and favourites, took on Joy FC, the unpredictable but hungry chasers. The game unfolded like a chess match, tight, intense, and filled with moments of brilliance. The deadlock was broken in the 28th minute when Daniel Onyeakazi coolly slotted home a penalty, putting Joy ahead. Then came the killer blow: in the 39th minute, Onyeakazi turned provider, delivering a perfect square pass to Charles Omonkhegbe, who finished with finesse to seal a 2–0 victory.
The result stuns the table. Love FC still top the standings with 18 points, but their aura of invincibility is now cracked. Joy FC leap into second place with 16 points, thanks to Onyeakazi’s standout performance, one goal, one assist, and the well-earned title of Player of the Week. He now leads the Golden Boot race with 9 goals, two ahead of his closest rivals.
As the dust settles, the league table is more congested than ever. Love FC hangs onto the lead with a narrow two-point cushion. Joy breathes down their neck. Grace and Light are not far behind. Peace is resurgent. And Faith, though struggling with only 5 points, showed flashes of fight and still has pride to play for.
The top scorers list continues to excite fans: Onyeakazi (Joy FC) leads with 9 goals, Osas (Love FC) and Kariboye Derek (Faith FC) trail with 6, while Musa (Light FC) now sits at 5. The assist charts also heat up, with Delight Baadi, Samuel Elliot, and Marvin Goodluck all tied at 3.
Discipline remains a sore spot across the board. Preston Omoruwa’s red card puts Peace in a tricky spot moving forward, while players like Sesan Sopitan, Ademola Kingiing, and Segun Adetifa now carry three yellow cards each.
With only one game left in the regular season, the race is wide open. Will Love maintain their grip at the summit? Can Joy ride the momentum of their latest victory to take control? And will Faith finally turn performance into points? One thing is certain: the drama is far from over.
